Course Description

The design of this course makes it suitable for any beginner who has no prior knowledge of computing. Starting from scratch, this course gradually prepares students to become proficient computer networking professionals.  

The subjects taught in the course have evolved from industry requirements and brought together to form part of a new and exciting Certificate. Currently the industry is dealing with a series of complex issues arising due to a high volume of growth in networked systems.

Students who study towards this Certificate shall find immense opportunities to gain employment, as they will undertake extremely challenging positions solving complex networking issues arising in all sectors of IT.

The material for the Cisco Certified Network Associate and other industrial qualifications are integrated into this course. Hence, students on the course will be able to obtain both an academic and a professional qualification.

The course is practically based and includes substantial amounts of project and group work. Students use the languages and tools that are widely used in the industry.

Syllabus
Structure of this course is such that there will be internal assessments and examination preparations for those who wish to optionally submit for industry certification examinations.
The overall course comprises two levels:
Level - 1
• PC/Server Hardware (Installation & Configuration)
• PC/Server Operating Systems
• European Computer Driving License (ECDL)
• Introduction to Network Concept
Level - 2
• Network Technology
• Network Security (Using Windows O/S 2003)
• Structured Cabling
• Introduction to CISCO CCNA
Students who successfully complete all the modules of Level -1 & II will be awarded a Certificate in Computer Networking

Note: Structure of this course is such that there will be internal assessments and examination preparations for those who wish to optionally submit for industry certification examinations.

Entrance Requirements

• GCSE or Overseas equivalent qualifications
• BTEC National Diploma/Certificate
• GCSE Mathematics, English, Science
• For mature students over 21 years, relevant work experience

Study Mode

Full-time: 03 Months
Part-time: 06 Months

Assessment

60% Laboratory work
40% Examinations

There will be internal assessments for all the modules with hands on practice before LSST award a short course certificate. Student may wish to sit for external exams by registering directly with the relevant examining bodies (Comptia, Cisco, Microsoft etc). There will be an examining fee for it. LSST do not involve in such examinations.

Career Opportunities

Students who pass the Certificate in Networking will have excellent scope for building a career as a Network Application Developer, Network Analyst, Network Security Administrator, System Administrator or Network Manager.

Progression Route: After passing certificate in Networking, student may join HND program at LSST.
