Introduction

The aim of the diploma in Administrative Management is to develop an appreciation of the people-management function within an organisation. It provides a general introduction to the relevance of the systems approach. It also asks candidates to consider administration in its wider organisational context.

This programme is taught by management specialists within the Business School who have contributed extensively to post-experience courses.

Course Description

Candidates are introduced to some of the key concerns of the administrative managers within a rapidly changing environment. The IT element also develops candidate's appreciation of the need to manage information.

The programme is recognised at Level 5 within the UK National Qualifications Framework. Level 5 qualifications are at a level equivalent to intermediate Higher Education qualifications such as Diplomas of Higher Education, Foundation and other Degrees

Course Structure

YEAR 1: (The Certificate/Diploma Modules)

• Business Administration*
• Systems & Activities*
• The Individual & the Organisation*
• Effective Management
• Management Information
• Human Resources

Plus

Either a Work Project Report 1 or Case Study 1.

A candidate who succeeds in the first three modules listed above (marked *) will be awarded the Certificate in Administrative Management.

Assessment
All modules are examined. There is also an In-course Assessment (ICA) element for each Module.

YEAR 2: (The Advanced Diploma in Administrative Management)

The syllabus consists of four compulsory 'core' modules, five option' modules and a Case Study or Work Project Report. The titles of the

' core ' modules are:
• Managing Contemporary Issues
• Managing Financial Resources
• Managing People
• Managing Processes
• Case Study 2 or Work Project Report

' option ' modules are:
• Managing Information - Analysis & Presentation
• Managing Information & Technology (*)
• Managing Facilities
• Managing Marketing (*)
• Managing Training & Development (*)

To obtain the Advanced Diploma it is necessary to pass the In-Course Assessments (assessed coursework) and examinations in the four 'core' modules, plus any two 'option' modules plus either the Case Study (examination only)* or the Work Project Report.

Assessment
All modules are assessed by examination and In-course Assessment (ICA).

Entry Requirements

The entry profile will include at least one of the following:

• IAM Certificate or

• 2 Year relevant experience or

• GCSEs/A Levels or

• NVQ Level 3 or

• Equivalent Qualification.

Assessment

Assessment is undertaken in a variety of ways that include assignments, practical projects, presentations, critiques and in some cases examinations depending on the type of module. All assessment is designed to both assess performance and as a learning vehicle. Industry relevant topics are used in assessments wherever possible.

Career Opportunities

As a recognized vocational qualification, the ADAM will open doors into a range of business and management related positions in City firms, multinational companies, specialist consultancies and small and medium-sized enterprises across a broad range of industry sectors.

Opportunities for Further Studies

ADAM is a well recognized course in UK universities, it is considered on par to completing the first two years of a Bachelors (Hons) degree. Graduates from this course are ideally suited to continue with their studies in BA (Hons) Strategic Administrative Management.
