Course Description

The award develops confidence and proficiency in English, boosting the specific language and skills required for successful communication. It is ideal for those requiring a quality qualification that is recognised by employers, educational institutions and professional bodies worldwide.
Learners can be assured that they have a relevant qualification to help progress their careers and personal development. This award is combined with the International SESOL (Spoken English for Speakers of Other Languages) which focuses on spoken English to demonstrate their proficiency in all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).

Course Structure

The qualification is available at six levels of awards, across all levels of the Common European Framework.

Levels
There are six levels linked to the Common European Framework:

• Preliminary
• Access
• Achiever
• Communicator
• Expert
• Mastery

The upper levels, Expert and Mastery, are recognised by many English speaking universities as evidence of language proficiency for entry purposes.

Assessment

For ESOL
Assessment is by a single exam paper which covers Listening, Reading and Writing. Listening and Reading questions are marked against paper-specific marking schemes.
The grades awarded will be First Class, Pass or Fail.

For SESOL
Assessment is by means of a recorded interview marked by City & Guilds Pitman Qualification examiners in the UK.
The grades awarded will be First Class, Pass or Fail.

Duration

Each level will covers a duration of 6 weeks; 15 hours per week.
