Course Description

The main course aim is to produce people who will be able to make a significant contribution to an organisation at any stage in its introduction, use and development of information systems and associated technology.

The course is designed for individuals who have developed expertise in other academic disciplines but who wish to move into the IS/IT area through a conversion course. There is, and continues to be, a growing need for professional staff with hybrid skills. Such people require the breadth of vision to appreciate the opportunities, as well as the constraints that exist for harnessing IT to deliver value to business.

The course will suit people of graduate standing to develop BIT competencies. This will be achieved by developing valuable IT skills and an understanding of organizational problems, operational systems and management styles and techniques.

The course teaching team has attempted to develop a coherent teaching and learning strategy across the route, congruent with the route aims. Besides developing academic competencies, the students will also be given the opportunity to start developing IT skills, which can eventually lead to professional accreditation.

Students will also develop their interpersonal and communication skills. With this in mind, the team has aimed to use group work, discussions, debates and other processes, which address the students' potential needs and have kept traditional lectures to a minimum at unit level.
