Student Attendance Policy (Abstract)

Students are expected to attend all lectures, tutorials, seminars, projects, examinations and enrolment as scheduled for their course of study. Students are required to achieve a level of at least 80% attendance throughout their course.

Students who fail to achieve 80% course attendance will be supported to improve, but may also face a range of sanctions.

Absences through ill health must be supported by a Medical Certificate. The Doctor’s note should also state the period that the student could not attend LSST while recovering.

For any other class absences, students must notify the school administrative office in advance or ASAP.

Examples of unacceptable reasons for absence include: traffic delays, attending family celebrations, employment or extra-curricular activities.

Holidays are not allowed during semester time under any circumstances.

Compassionate Leave might be granted in certain cases. Please refer to Student Attendance Policy for more information.

International students are required to attend a full-time course of at least 15 hours of organised day time study per week.

UK Border Agency expects all Tier 4 sponsors to meet the Tier 4 specific criteria relating to their accrediting body – in our case British Accreditation Council (BAC). It is a minimum requirement of British Accreditation Council (BAC) that visa students should achieve at least 80% attendance to comply with Tier 4 rules.

Under the Tier 4 PBS rules and regulations the college is your licensed sponsor in the UK, and is required by law to report to the UK Border Agency:

  • if a sponsored student does not enrol on his/her course within the enrolment period
  • if a sponsored student misses 10 expected contacts, without the sponsor’s reasonably granted permission.
  • if a sponsored student discontinues his/her studies (including a deferrals of study)
  • if the sponsor stops sponsoring the student for any other reason
  • if there are any significant changes in the sponsored student‘s circumstances
  • any information which suggests that a sponsored student is breaching the conditions of his or her leave
